Drama classes begin in fourth grade through our Kingdom Theatre program, inviting students into the world of storytelling, character, and imagination. Through guided activities, in-class scenes, and journaling, they discover the core elements of drama and explore how stories shape their understanding of themselves and others.

As students progress, so does their confidence. By sixth grade, Drama becomes a space for deeper reflection and personal growth, fostering voice, presence, and life skills they will carry into middle school and beyond. From the masks of Commedia dell’Arte to the stages of ancient Greece and Shakespearean England, students learn how theatre connects to the human experience, helping them grow into thoughtful, expressive, and compassionate individuals.

Drama Club

Drama Club has been a cherished part of the SJEDS experience for over 20 years, offering third through sixth grade students the opportunity to shine on stage. Through Broadway Jr. productions, participants develop their talents in singing, acting, and dancing as they prepare for a full-scale musical performance. The program begins each fall and requires a full-year commitment, allowing students to grow as performers while working collaboratively to bring the spring production to life.

Mini Drama Club

Mini Drama Club introduces our youngest performers to the joy of theatre in a fun and supportive environment. Beginning in January, students in kindergarten through second grade join rehearsals to prepare for their special appearance in the spring musical alongside the Drama Club.

These budding stars learn one of the full company numbers and bring their energy and charm to the stage, often stealing the show in their own right! Mini Drama Club gives students in kindergarten through second grade a taste of performance while building confidence, creativity, and a sense of belonging in our Kingdom Theatre tradition.
