 LETTER FROM OUR PA PRESIDENT

Dear SJEDS Parents,

When I moved here three years ago, my children were in second and fifth grades. We came in the middle of the school year, and I didn’t know anyone at SJEDS or even in Jacksonville. Fortunately, there was an Art Day Committee meeting in the church lounge right after the Christmas break.

I didn’t know where the church lounge was, or even really, what Art Day was. I had to ask my daughter’s teacher to point me in the right direction. The chair of the committee was a parent in my daughter’s class, but I didn’t know it at the time.

I attended that meeting, and met a dozen or so moms whose names I wouldn’t remember by the end of the meeting, but whose faces I could smile at the next time I saw them in the halls and knew they would smile back.

I attended that meeting and ended up leading a project for Art Day that every student in the school participated in.

I attended that meeting and today, the chair of that committee three years ago, is one of my closest friends.

There is no question in my mind that volunteering in our school is a win-win for all of us. We provide support to our teachers, we enrich the experience of our children, and we develop a network of friends that you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else.

Our volunteers have done an outstanding job of updating the PA portion of the SJEDS website. You will find information regarding our committees, our meetings, and plenty of ways to contact us should you have any questions or concerns.

We are looking forward to another great year!

All the best,

Catherine Kirkpatrick
