FAQs
Q. Is an Annual Giving campaign unique to San Jose Episcopal Day School?
A. No. Independent schools have long relied on the generosity and loyalty of their own community. Very few independent schools, colleges or universities meet full operating costs with tuition alone.
Q. Why does SJEDS ask for contributions in addition to tuition and fees?
A. Tuition and fees do not cover the total cost of educating each student. Our advancement efforts solicit charitable gifts in order to bridge the gap between tuition income and the school’s actual operating costs.
The funds contributed to the Annual Giving campaign each year are vital to the growth and strength of our program. Gifts have a direct impact on the school’s ability to achieve its goals and fulfill its mission.
Q. Why doesn’t the SJEDS budget cover all operating expenses?
A. SJEDS is committed to building a dynamic learning environment staffed by dedicated and experienced teachers. We offer this at a cost subsidized through our fundraising efforts, allowing students from a wider range of backgrounds to attend SJEDS. The richness and diverse community benefits all families.
Q. How much should we give? What is expected?
A. We hope you will choose to participate in the Annual Giving campaign to the extent that you are financially able. Gifts of all abilities are warmly welcomed and range from $5 to more than $25,000. Please remember that your contribution, along with those of all our donors, will directly impact our ability to provide an exceptional environment for students and to maintain our low tuition. We hope you will consider making SJEDS one of your top philanthropic priorities.
Q. How do I donate?
A. You may mail in your gift and download Annual Giving Gift Envelope here or make a secure Gift Online.
Q. What are Matching Gifts?
A. Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match charitable contributions made by their employees. The impact of your gift to SJEDS may be doubled or even tripled!
Q. Is my gift tax-deductible?
A. All contributions are fully tax-deducible according to IRS guidelines. Please contact your financial or tax adviser for details.
Q. Who participates?
A. 100% of SJEDS faculty and staff participate, and we challenge the parents to do the same. Grandparents, relatives, alumni, parents of alumni and friends of the School and Church all help SJEDS grow.
