Curriculum
In pre-kindergarten and kindergarten, children are continuously assessed. Skills are introduced, practice is provided, and mastery is noted. Teachers communicate informally and formally with parents on a regular basis. Formal progress reports are mailed home twice a year: at mid-year and the end of the year. Parents are invited to participate in a formal conference with classroom teachers in the fall and spring. Other conferences may be scheduled as necessary during the year.
In first through sixth grades, a professional evaluation of the student by the teacher is intended to give a general picture of a child’s progress. Assessment is based on every observable facet of a child’s performance in the classroom. This may include class participation, active interest in discussion, quality of homework and class work as well as assignments, quizzes, tests, projects, and portfolios. Letter grades will be given in grades three through six.
